CLIMB CULTURE ARTIST
A 38 year-old London based illustrator, artist and climber, exploring the theme of the outdoors exploration through her illustrations, paintings and drawings.WHY DO YOU CLIMB?
Climbing is one of the area of my life where mind body and soul connects together and i feel deeply aligned. I love that it involves being in nature, making me travel to incredible places, and challenging me both physically and mentally. I climb for the experience, the flow state and that amazing feeling of being in the moment.
The climbing community is also pretty awesome : I connect with the values and the spirit it carries and I meet great people and makes new friends through climbing that makes me feel like I found my tribe!
3 PROUDEST CLIMBING ACHIEVEMENTS
- Brazen Butress ( E2 5c), an amazing sea cliff route on the infamous Pembroke area Mother Carey’s Kitchen in Wales. A 40m beautiful trad route where I had to fight the pump and keep my head cool together all the way
- The three 7a’s onsight day: a great morning in the island of Portland, Dorset, UK, where I onsighted two 7a and a 7a+ in a single morning: I felt unstoppable that day!
- One of my first E1, a great finger crack called Embankment II in Millstone quarry in the UK. I was initially planning to top rope it once more before committing to the lead but my friends didn't let me and get me to have a go... wish ended up being a send! Once my head committed to it, it was pure flow and commitment to the crux move before an exalted top out!
MOST MEMORABLE CLIMB
My most memorable climbs are epic multi pitch days, where one goes on a full day journey. The memory of a long multipitch that I did in Norway a couple of years back always comes back to my mind. 14 pitches of perfect friction granite, each of them between 45 and 60 meter long!
Almost 800m climbed in a day, and rappelled in a few hours, in the most efficient and smooth fashion with my favourite climbing partner, sharing belly laugh and stories over the magnificent view of the fjord.
It started raining as soon as we reached the ground - perfect timing for a perfect climbing day out.
CURRENT PROJECT / GOAL
Current Project: Keeping fit whilst the various lockdowns are underway and working on my upper body strength, which is my ongoing weakness.
Goal: Getting comfortable climbing trad E2 and sport 7b across all styles. And if travel is possible in autumn going to Indian Creek! This is both a longstanding climbing and painting dream.
BEST ADVICE TO NEW CLIMBERS
Don’t get strong too quickly! It will help you to develop good technique to start with. Your strongest muscle is your brain, don’t forget to train it too!QUOTE
